Children’s Musical Workshop: Sounds from Ghana

27-29 January 2012. This musical workshop, entitled Sounds from Ghana, is organized by Jochen Schell, Lucía Arias Ballesteros, Kingsley Obeng-Kyereh and Eugene Oppong Ampadu and especially directed to children aged 12-18 years of the radio production Curious Minds. This workshop will teach young participants how to research, write, compose, record and produce songs on children’s rights. Through music children will learn more about children’s rights. Symposium on Study and Research in Germany

This symposium is organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Ghana and the German Embassy and will provide participants with detailed information on all issues concerning study and research opportunities in Germany. Among the topics will be International Degree Programmes taught in the English language, DAAD scholarships, language proficiency and visa requirements. more


Choir concert with Ensemble Accragio

15 December 2011. Goethe Institut hosts this concert by the Accra-based international Expat-Choir, better known as Accragio. On this occasion Accragio will perform several folk- and Christmas carols coming from all over the world as well as some choir pieces from the 19th century. Concert starts at 19.00. more


City Forum on Culture and Development

7-10 November 2011. This international conference will focus on Culture and Development in African cities. On this occasion many important personalities will come together from various African capitals and participate to stimulating public readings and workshops. The aim of this conference is to elaborate a general scheme and future approaches to cultural diversity. The Widows Mite Exhibition

6-20 December 2011. This exhibition, entitled The Widows Mite, displays the works of Nana Obaahemaa Asem III (Carolyn Everlove Tetteh). This exhibition is the result of a training workshop, organized by Tetteh with four widows in order to develop their creative potentials in beads craft, textile printing and painting. This event will be officially opened by Mr. Franklin Nii Glover, President of Ghana Association of Visual Artists (GAVA) and Head of the Visual Department, Center for National Culture, Ghana. Tetteh’s works are appreciated for their visual viguor and inventive composition. This artist tries to make people from various social backgrounds become more aware of themselves, their cultures and the environment they live in. more


Made in MadaGhana: Folk music from two cultures

25 November 2011. Goethe Institut organizes this event, entitled Made in MadaGhana, dedicated to folk music and poetry from Malagasy and Ghana. On focus is the fusion of two great rhythms and cultures. On programme are among the others spoken word performances by Crystal Tettey, as well as guest performances by EhaLaKasa poets from Accra. On stage will also be internationally renowned artists such as Nneka, Wanlov The Kubolor, Gena West, Bibie Brew, Efya and saxofonist Dela Jackson. Half of the event proceeds will go towards funding Femmes Junior, a Malagasy organization that works at ensuring the active participation of young women in the Malagasy peace process. Event starts at 19.30. more


African Percussion and Dance performance

18 November 2011. On occasion of the 50th anniversary of Accra’s Goethe Institut, it dedicates an entire evening to African music and dance. On stage will be various dance group as well as percussionists, who will perform African music and their own creative and choreographed dance pieces. On programme are among the others the Ayeekoo Drummers, Heritage Africa, AkwaabaMix, Omaye Dance Ensemble and African Showboyz. Event starts at 19.00. more

4 November 2011. Goethe Institut launches this book, written by Eric Osei, entitled Principles Followed by Successful Entrepreneurs. This book focuses on the stories of Ghanaians, who have returned from Germany and tell about their career abroad. Osei tries to offer a sort of guide for young emerging entrepreneurs as well as simple young people, who have the desire of seeking for their fortune abroad. Osei celebrates the work of some individuals, who showed a particular character, leadership and a principle led approach. Lecture starts at 19.00. more
